Horst Winkler Sculpture & Nature Trail
The Bascom provides a welcoming, park-like setting and indoor and outdoor experiences, including a Sculpture & Nature Trail. Accessible from The Bascom’s parking lot, the trail winds its way through native greenery toward Oak Street and the Highland’s Greenway Trail.  Ecological features of the site enhance the visitor experience, with meadows, rhododendron groves, birds and other creatures, woodlands, water elements, and unblemished mountain views. Enjoy the beauty and solitude of the outdoor classroom or the rustic pavilion. Outdoor classrooms with grassy, tiered seating areas accommodate school and other groups.

Hank Ross, Landscape Architect, worked to ensure that the native plants on the property were not harmed during construction.  The land that had been gently terraced during its life as a farm and stable is alive with ferns, dog hobble, Solomon seal, trillium and other native plants.

A donation from Horst and Margaret Winkler made the trail possible.
